My husband had a serious heart complaint and was also on dialysis. He had an episode and was taken into emergency. This was overnight. In the early hours it was said they had put him on DNR without consulting either of us and I said he didn’t want that. At that time my husband was sitting up in bed and completely conscious and he confirmed he didn’t want it. A doctor said they could do what they wanted. I challenged this and said he ought to speak to his legal department. I spoke to my solicitor who was astounded at the doctors attitude. We complained and had a meeting with the authorities who confirmed the DNR note on his file had been removed. My husband continued to do well. I can’t remember how long after that incident to when he died but we have never forgotten it. It was traumatising for both of us.
